Gotta get away?

Summer chill mode is here and the family is itching to get away. After all, everyone needs a break from chores, the dishwasher and the daily grind.

What better than a good o’l road trip or right up the road staycay and discover some not so far from home fun. TEXASis big and offers a variety of get away / stay cay options.

Check out three of my year around favorites. Each of these unique places offer a scenic escape for rejuvinating couple time or an adventurous family retreat. Heck I liked it so much I might just put in for a girls only weekend get away.

Lake Tyler Petroleum Club and Cabins

This place is a hidden gem! Couples therapy, guys get away or family friendly the choice is yours.

Private, spacious and plenty to do or not to do! If you just gotta get away for a few nights, head East to Lake Tyler. I was attending a family wedding in Tyler and instead of staying at the local Marriott Residence Inn, I opted for a more rustic appeal. A cabin on Lake Tyler. Welcome to the Meadow Brook Cabin.

This easy peasy two hour drive was nothing. I arrived to a picturesque one bedroom cabin in a gated property over looking Lake Tyler. Lake Tyler is situated about 25 miles from the nearest town.

The cabin was adorable. Let’s be honest, what mattered most was the coffee pot! The staff had already turned down the AC so it was nice and cool inside.

This darling tricked out space had a full kitchen, dining area, shower and bath. It was arranged and set facing the lake with a screened in porch and large deck surrounding the cabin. The only tinsey caveat is, no television and no wifi. But who needs it when you’re at the lake?

Spend time in this tranqui cabin in the hills listening to music, resting, reading or playing board games. (cabin was stocked with a variety of board games and cards) If you’re more of the outdoorsy type, get your water sports on. Rent a barge, boat, kayak, or go for a swim in the water or the swimming pool. Haul your water toys to Lake Tyler and launch at the marina. There was plenty to do FITness wise like walk, jog or hike around the lake. Did someone say FISHING? Toss in a line and fish a while. Sit down on the dock and sunbathe, drink wine or carry your cooler. This would be ideal for a family or a quick couples R&R get away any time of the year. You can pack light but bring some groceries to stock the frig.

The cabin was spotless and bug free. The towels were soft and fresh. Winter, Spring, Summer or Fall, this serene hide away is a best kept secret. A girls or guys weekend get away in the Fall would be a BLAST. There is a private fire pit stocked with wood staring out to the lake. A great place to kick back, roast marshmallows, sip wine, watch the sunset, and call it another great lake escape!

If you are more of a city girl and love the luxury of hotel/ resort life you might want to book a weekend at Las Colinas Four Seasons Resort and Sports Club.

Located in the heart of Las Colinas Texas, The Sports Club and hotel is a prime spot to call the squat. A luxury spa, two golf courses, a workout facility FIT for royalty, tennis courts, swimming pools, hot tubs, sauna, and lots more. The private bungalow villas are just the spot for privacy. This hotel is ten minutes away from the new Toyota Music Factory and 20 minutes to the heart of Dallas. I hosted a girls night birthday bash in May and it was divine. Two weeks later Mr. Chicken Fry and I went back for a nights stay to kick off Summer. It was refreshing. No tedious long drive home to fool with. It was a great reboot one night away from the same ol same ol. 24 hours away from home can do wonders for the soul. After a genuine sunny day by the pool, we showered, went to a nice dinner, and woke up in hotel sheets! The next morning we woke up to frigid hotel temperatures, (I JUST LOVE THAT) and had a quick cup of NESpresso in the room, put on my workout gear and hit the gym for cardio. Following a short and sweet sweat session on the treadmill, I hit the steam, showered and had a lovely late brunch with the one and only Mr. Chicken Fry. The Sunday brunch is out of this world. Words won’t do it justice you just have to trust me. One small piece of advice….save room for desert or you will be sorry. You will literally not ever have to eat again.

Cedar Creek Lake– approximately 55 minutes from downtown Dallas. I have been fortunate enough to have a place, well my parents had a place, on Cedar Creek for 44 years. Summers at Cedar Creek were my child hood. It’s where I learned to water ski, fish, chase lightning bugs and play with sparklers. It’s a taste of country lake life. Cedar Creek is a giant man-made lake covered with homes outlining the banks. It’s a big wide open lake roomy enough for boating, sailing, jet skiing and other adverterous water sports. The lake has many veins withbBig protected coves for swimming and anchoring for hours. There are homes for rent via VRBO and or AIR B&B around the lake. Cedar Creek Reservoir is a reservoir located in Henderson and Kaufman Counties, Texas, 60 miles southeast of Dallas. It is built on Cedar Creek, which flows into the Trinity River. Cedar Creek offers two golf courses, Pinnacle Country Club and Cedar Creek Country Club. Both private golf courses.
