Creatures of habit?
Perhaps, but there is a valid reason why we keep Telluride on repeat. Christmas vacation 2023, Abercrombie family wound down the year in our favorite mountain spot in Telluride, Colorado. I hesitate to “show and tell” this special vacation retreat because Telluride is literally Colorado’s BEST KEPT SECRET!
WHY?
Because it’s not crowded!! Like there are literally no lift lines anywhere. (Until the day after Christmas) The lift lines get a lil congested and by congested I mean 30-40 min wait for a chair. The lines surge for three days and then it’s empty again!

The 360 views are almost impossible to capture. The beauty is obscene! Pit stops on the mountain are ultra clean, candles burning, max service and an unexpressed boutique feeling that is unmatched.
RETRO SKI SWEATER PERFECT MOMENT
Most people find that Telluride is hard to get to, which is fine by me, but truth is…it’s really not! We fly America Airlines direct from DFW to Montrose. From Montrose we have a private car waiting to take us to the City Market where we drive thru and pick up pre-ordered groceries and liquor. From there we sit back and enjoy a gorgeous one hour and 30 min drive to Telluride. EASY PEASY…but don’t tell anyone.
Secondly, Telluride has a gondola system running from the base “the town of Telluride” to the top of the mountain. No car needed to get you to any place on the entire mountain. It’s fantastic!
The Mountain Lodge is centrally located on the mountain in Mountain Village. We have stayed at this resort multiple times and it’s never not been a stellar experience. However this go around was exceptional because we book a luxury log cabin. A SLOPE SLIDE 3 bedroom cabin that comfortably sleeps 10 people. We stayed in Cabin 10, aka SUNDANCE cabin . There are not enough adjectives to describe the space and convenient ski in ski out experience. I was completely blown away. There are a variety of cabins and condos to check out!
The Mountain Lodge has a killer restaurant /bar that serves breakfast lunch and dinner. But the big benefit is the heated swimming pool, hot tub with breathtaking sunset views! The incredible landscape, the snow, the snow sports and fireside ambience wins my heart year after year. (Also a full gym/ weight room & steam room!)
We have our own ski equipment which I purchased from Amazon. I have these amazing ROSSIGNOL SKI BOOTS. They have a faux fur lining that is soft and cuddly. I had them molded and melted to my feet at Sun & Ski sports. ROSSIGNOL SKI’s & poles! Worth every single penny!
I purchased the baby girl a CAPiTA snow board for Christmas and she’s in LOVE. This board rides smooth and is a high end reputable board. MORE COLOR OPTIONS.
DOUBLE SKI BAG & SNOWBOARD BAG These travel ski and snowboard bags are legit! DURABLE wheels and handle A must have for transporting and securing equipment.
FOR ONLINE SKI RENTALS I recommend CHRISTY SPORTS! This is ALL ON LINE and an EASY EXPERIENCE. We purchase the EPIC ski pass which gives us access to 7 days in Telluride and access to multiple other resorts for the whole ski season!!!! It’s EPIC!
The Madeline Hotel is phenomenal! We almost always enjoy a cozy drink on the bougie patio or in the bar! In the center of Mountein Village is a boutique hotel with cool art and the people watching wins! Located across from the skating rink so parents can relax and let the kids go crazy! There is also a “free people” store adjacent to the Madeline bonus !!!

Digestion issues in high altitude? Me too!!! For years I have battled gas, bloating and digestion issues in the altitude. But after labored research, I found my cure or at least a major improvement. Ski apparel is the ticket to a happy experience. Why sacrifice style? I like to mix and match look good ski better! Not all of the sweaters made it in but I will no doubt sport it all in FRISCO, COLORADO for a couples ski trip!

Our daily travel schedule isn’t exactly relaxed. We wake up, eat breakfast in the cabin and gear up. We hit the slopes around 10 to 10:30am and enjoy all of the snow. We usually stop in for a snack, drink and ski until the lifts close at 4pm. If ya don’t use it you lose it!!!!

Once the ski day is cashed…we either hit the hot tub followed by grub. Often times, apre ski we change clothes quick to get a bar seat in our favorite sundown spot at ‘Allred’s.’
My favorite places to ski on the mountain? Everyone always asks.
I love it ALL…I ski it all… my knees detest moguls…but in a pinch I will gladly accept the challenge.
My heart and soul adore the Prospect Bowl! Call me old school but I flipping love the steep groomed wide runs in the trees!! I love dropping in and taking the prospect express up looking to the left at all the glory. There are blue and black runs that keep you interested and challenged.
Gorranos Ranch is an open lodge / bar restaurant on the mountain. Indoor outdoor seating with an awesome backdrop. Have a burger , a cup of soup or a hot toddie it’s a gorgeous stop with live music super festive.
When the face of the mountain is open I like the black runs into town. Often we will stop for a hot toddie at the Fairmount hotel bar before going back up the gondola for more!
Esparanza’s is a cozy mexican food hide out. Underground vibe with good chips, salsa and “texcolorado” mex! This dining experience is in the middle of town in the heart of the shops.

I hear Telluride is best in the Summer months. I wouldn’t know but I sure do love the Rocky Mountains in the Winter.
