Rise and shine superstars.
How was your weekend?
I was so thankful that the sun graced us with its glorious face and filled the sky with bright blue skies. I spent much of my weekend outside soaking up the vitamin D!
Check out this basic pool side workout consisting of jump squats, curtsy lunges, tricep dips, butterfly sit ups, push ups and single leg squats. I did three rounds of each movement for 20 reps a piece!
Now…let’s talk bone broth!
Bone broth…old news or new hype?
Depends on who you ask I guess.
Lately, there has been a ton of buzz in the health and wellness industry about the oldest/ newest trend in town…bone broth aka…chicken stalk. While I know that bone broth is an age-old practice, I decided to investigate the banter by planning an Abercrombie and FITness field trip to see it for myself. Ladies and gents…meet Joanne Bondy, owner of Stocks and Bondy’s in the Dallas Farmers Market.
Joanne was gracious enough to give me her undivided attention and the full 101 in bone broth making. I got the full spiel of the beneficial broth and how to use it in the kitchen. It’s extensive and no one is doing it better than Stocks and Bondy.
Before our intelligent Q&A, Joanne greeted me with a warm cup of one of her favorite classic potion. With one sip, I was hooked. It was like she knew in advance that I’m a sucker for lemon and lavender. Sip it like a cup of tea or drink it from a soup bowl. The lemon zest broth tasted like a lightly salted lemon with a hint of lavender toward the end. Joanne infuses essential oils into this zesty blend.
Bone broth is packed with more health benefits than you can shake a stick at!
Joanne Bondy birthed Stocks and Bondy while enduring chemotherapy treatments. With an extensive culinary background Joanne was ready for a change and took a risk. Stepping out of her cush hotel culinary life and into the kitchen. Joanne is now seven years cancer free, cooking and growing like gang busters. The risk has paid off and now Joanne can is selling an organic farm fresh, all natural, no artificul perservatives or ingredeints cancer fighting immunity building bone broth seasoned to perfection. I’m one of many willing to sell a limb and begging her to set up shop at the Coppell Farmer’s Market! (hint hint)
Can I just say that Joanne is every bit a bondy. I immediately felt an immediate bond and connection with her from the get go. She’s smart, beautiful and INSPIRING. Right off the bat, we swapped grandmother stories and our eternal search for authentic people and food. Joanne has the kind of integrity that makes you wish she was your best friend.
Enough with the love fest…Let’s dive into and drink up THE BROTH!
This image is the basic depiction of cooking for dummies (ME). But Because I was never allowed into the kitchen except to dry the dishes…I never had a chance to absorb this goodness. Before last week I didn’t really know the difference between chicken soup and chicken stock/broth.
I have now tried three different flavors of this one of kind broth and I’m crazy mad for the benefits. Bring on the plump glowing skin and improved digestion. Chicken stock has gelatin which is hydrophilic colloid which attracts and hold liquids, including digestive juices, thereby supporting proper digestion. I’ll drink to anything that promotes healthy hair and nail growth hence my skinny hair woes! I’m not getting any younger and bone broth contains high amounts of calcium, magnesium, phosphorus and other trace minerals for strong healthy bones. Lastly, I’ll gladly cheers to reduced joint inflammation courtesy of chondrotin sulphates, glucosamine and others compounds extracted from the cartilage.
Here is where it really gets good! For less than 13-20 calories a day who wouldn’t want these immune fighting healthy gains? All of the broths are from grass-fed farms and contain zero fat. Did you hear that…these broths are gluten-free, fat-free and therefore guilt FREE! It’s a no brainer not to mention Joanne turns it up a notch with her uncompromised seasonings. Sip on this delightful treat all day or chug it first thing in the morning or last thing at night. Other ideas include cooking with vegetables and rice for extra nutrients. This broth will add so many key ingredients to sauces, stews, or soups.
All of Joanne’s hand crafted receips are made from the heart. You can taste it!
Her Immunity broth blend is seasoned with ginger and turmeric. It’s bold and great for a hangover and or if you start feeling sick. It’s immunity fighting on a grand scale.
Spike is one of her best sellers which is spiked with so many wonderful seasonings.
The Baked Apple Almond was the last one for me to sample because I thought it sounded to sweet. I misjudged it big time. Turns out it was my favorite one. The perfect mix of lightly salted almond apple was on my tastebuds. It was lightly sweet in the best perfect way.
The best way to store the broth is freezer or frig. It keeps for a two weeks. The best way to heat is with a stainless steel pan and bring to a boil. Let cool and sip or use to to cook. Of course you can use the microwave but I chose to keep it organic. The reheat took all of about 2 min max.
Joanne is kindly offering a 10% discount on any of her fantastic savory broths when you use promo code AbercrombieFIT!
If you are on a lean budget Joanne suggest purchasing her most basic chicken stock. From there you can take it home and season to your own personal liking.
There is no reason not to at least try bone broth as a daily supplement. Why not plan to eat good nutritional food that supports heart, health and immunity and….TASTE AMAZING?!?!
Do I have your taste buds watering?
