Bringing Sweaty Back, FITness Videos

MAYhem

May is a derivative of mayhem. It’s got to be! There is barely time to breathe in this fast and furious month.

No one warned me but it’s true. From the day your child starts elementary and until they leave your home as an actual adult, all bets are off in May! It’s madness. It’s ultra busy because all of the parties, field days, meetings, supplies, celebrations, graduations, achievement banquets, sports tournaments, and school schedules have to solid before we can progress into the next school year.  Nothing can wait. Can we all just close our eyes and think real hard and wish it away?

I have a better idea, I vote to move Mother’s day to June, and push Father’s day back to July!  Why isn’t this a great idea?

The good news is, in less than three weeks it will all be over and Summer will arrive (click here for my FITastic Summer favorites)  . We can take a break from the school routine, athletics, activities, and important board and parent meetings.  BUT this is not an excuse to get lazy!!!

In midst of the MAYhem do you sacrifice your time and personal freedom to make all the things happens for others? You are not alone.

Here is what I know…when you don’t keep the one thing that is exclusively for YOU sacred, you will get lost! If you don’t keep yourself glued to your training session or 30 min cardio time or early morning power walking gig with your girl friend you lose! Schedule it and sharpie the appointment in stone. Unless your sick or have an ill child…don’t miss it. All of the other things can wait. You deserve it. It’s your downtime your stress relief and a focus on your health.

Speaking of….

Here are a few oldie but goodie ideas to keep your activity level on point this Summer.

Pump up the tires and roll with it. Take a cruise in the morning or evening and get the blood circulating. It’s a fun family friendly activity for the young AND the more mature. It burns calories and what’s more than that?

Eat FRESH!

Make the produce isle and deli department a weekly stop.  Green vegetables, ripe tomatoes and avocados should always be in your basket.  Fire up the charcoal grill and cook up some pork, chicken and fish using lots of seasoning like sea salt, lemon pepper and garlic.  Fresh asparagus and corn on the cob are so juicy and flavorful.  Toss them on the grill in foil and your eating clean and mean this Summer.

Lay in the sun! Soak up the vitamin D and grab some rays with sunscreen of course!   Here’s an idea, set a time limit (using the timer on your phone) but give yourself 15 minutes on each side!

Frolicking in the pool is always pleasant. Float, swim, wade in the water, play Marco Polo, splash and laugh.

Play Kan Jam or corn hole. Kan Jam is the ultimate competitive family fun activity that requires dusting off your frisbee skills.  You will need four people to play.  Be sure your partner is fun and can control the frisbee or else you might get whacked in the shin or head.  I took my Kan Jam to a whole nuther level and purchased the glow in the dark frisbee so I can play all day and night! All the college kids are doing it and what’s more you can take it with you anywhere.  It packs light for beach or lake trips or just plain old front or backyard game time.  I bought my Kan Jam from Amazon click the link here for more details.  KAN JAM

Plant a garden!  Tomatoes and peppers are easy to grow and it’s an activity that everyone can do.  It’s also a super healthy way to eat.  Tending to a garden is manual labor but it most definitely counts as an active workout.  Bending, stooping, pulling weeds, planting flowers and or vegetables is hard and rewarding work.  Several years ago we planted mint, tomatoes, peppers and onions.  We had several years of success before hung up or gardening gloves.  Don’t forget to make a scarecrow!

Take a hike! Hit the trails around your community or drive out to a park or lake. Hiking or biking trails is FITnominal exercise. Working a different terrain is good for the core and legs and builds strength. Pack a lunch and carry plenty of water in your back pack.

Grin and bear the May mayhem.   We are half way to home base and soon we can slide into June with some coconut oil and sunglasses.

Love, lift and be FIT.
